Prof. Dr. Tomas Robyns is a genetic cardiologist with expertise in hereditary arrhythmias and cardiomyopathies.

He is the head of the Centre for hereditary heart disease at the University hospitals Leuven; and president elect of the Belgian Council on Cardiogenomics.

His research focuses on the genotype phenotype relation of inherited cardiomyopathies and arrhythmia syndromes.

14:10 - 14:25, Genetic counselling: when, how and why should I report the results?
Define the concept of actionability and situations like cascade screening and prenatal/PGD

Julie De Backer, MD, PhD, FESC, is a genetic cardiologist at Ghent University Hospital. She heads the Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD)  clinic and coordinates interdisciplinary programs for ACHD & Heritable Thoracic Aortic Disease (HTAD) patients, with a focus on patient centered care.

Her translational research focuses on in-depth cardiovascular profiling in Marfan syndrome and HTAD, exploring geno/phenotype relationships.

Liesbeth Wildero – Van Wouwe is trained as a midwife and holds a Master’s degree in Healthcare Sciences.

Since 2018, she works as a counselor at University Hospital Ghent, with a strong passion for cardiogenetics and patient centered care.

14:25 - 14:35, Could a genetic result influence my global cardiovascular risk for coronary artery disease?
Discuss part of heritability in cardiovascular risk ex  Lpa - FH - PRS

Prof. Dr. Antoine Bondue is Head of the Cardiology Department at HUB Erasme Hospital in Brussels, President of the Belgian Cardiac League, and President of the Belgian Council of Cardiovascular Genomics. He is a member of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and a member of the European Council of Cardiovascular Genomics. Professor Bondue specializes in cardiomyopathies, cardiac amyloidosis, inherited cardiac conditions, and neurodegenerative diseases.

Telomere length in patients with Marfan syndrome: a pilot study

Tijs Tournoy obtained his medical degree in 2022 at Ghent University. He is a resident at the Department of Cardiology, UZ Ghent and a PhD student at Ghent University within the Heritable Thoracic Aortic Disease Lab. His research focuses on aging in patients with congenital heart disease. His work explores biological hallmarks of aging in this population, including telomere length, chronic inflammation, and epigenetics, alongside clinical and echocardiographic predictors of aging.
