Join the screening at EU Commission

17 September 2026 by
Belgian Society of Cardiology vzw
In conjunction with European Screening Week, the EU is organising a "Know Your Numbers" awareness-campaign with cardiac health checks outside the Commission’s Berlaymont building.

Doctors are still needed to staff the event. While the tests themselves will be performed by nurses, the organisation want a medical doctor to be present to handle significantly abnormal readings, address any issues, or answer questions from the press.

BSC is looking for doctors available for a few hours between 28 Sept. and 2 Oct.

Volunteer for a shift

The EU-commission is responsible for calling this the ‘EU screening week’. This has however not the intention to be a population screening effort, but is merely a public campaign to heighten awareness about cardiovascular disease, the cardiometabolic syndrome and the risk factors involved.

Dates: Monday 28 September – Friday 2 October
Time: 08:30 – 17:00

Health check station set-up

  • The initiative is designed as an awareness-raising and early detection activity to help individuals better understand their cardio metabolic health and potential risk factors. It does not provide a medical diagnosis, nor is it intended to replace, supersede or be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, treatment or regular consultations with a healthcare professional. Participants will be encouraged to discuss any findings with their HCP, who remains responsible for any clinical evaluation, diagnosis and subsequent management.
  • Consent forms will be required to be signed, stating that data collected is anonymised and may be used for research purposes
  • 4 testing booths stationed by 1 nurse per booth (1 table, 2 chairs per booth) who will run all the tests
  • Approximately 20 minutes need per person x 4 booths = 12 people per hour = approx. 100 per day
